Description

An absolutely beautiful yellow ground Shirvan long rug. Shirvan is a district in the Eastern Caucasus.  Today, the region is an agriculturally developed part of the Azerbaijan Republic that stretches between the western shores of the Caspian Sea and the Kura River.  It has historically been known as one of the most spectacular producers of rugs,  and they are highly prised for their designs as well as their colours.

. . .

This example has a very beautiful yellow ground covered with tulips, together with a wonderful collection of secondary colours red for each different flower. . . Shirvan dyers are very well known for their quite fabulous and extensive use of colours – compared to many other caucasian rugs,  Shirvans’ are incredibly vibrant and colourful.

This piece has been within part of a private collection in Europe for many years and is freshly available.  It has in the past,  had some small repairs to the field where the rug has been previously damaged.  Otherwise,  there are no major reweaves and the sides and ends are all original and untouched.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please contact us to arrange an appointment to see this rug in situ or to visit our barn showroom in Surrey.  We would love to welcome you here and show you this Shirvan rug and many more.
