Restoration Pricing
If you require a quote to repair a carpet or rug that has been damaged by animals, water, fire or moth, we shall obtain a quote from our workshop for you before proceeding with the restoration work. We can advise on more common repairs and prices involved below:
To repair a rugs fringes, we remove any loose wool and damaged wefts and secure it to a neat straight line using a chain-stitch and a blanket-stitch. This provides great strength to the fringe and stops it unravelling further.
To repair a rugs sides/selvedges, where wool is missing but the side-cord structure is still intact, we would match the wool and wrap it back around the side-cord. If the side-cord is snapped or damaged in areas, we would need to show our workshop to obtain a quote to repair this for you. Again once completed this work adds strength back to the rug and prevents further damage.
Repairing fringes (securing the ends) with blanket & chain stitch is £30 per foot + Vat
Repairing sides/selvedges, wrapping wool around the side-cord to match is £30 per foot + Vat

Antique Kirman carpet, fine weave, badly damaged by a puppy
This beautiful and fine town carpet from Kirman in Persia was badly damaged by a puppy who ate a large area on one side of the carpet. Our expert restorer rebuilt the foundation of the damaged area before reweaving the pile, matching the design and colours perfectly! Such skill involved to reweave the design so accurately, also matching the colours as close as possible is paramount to an expert repair. This restoration work took around 4 months to complete, we hope you agree in that the finished work is quite remarkable!
Silk foundation Senneh rug with nasty split
This very fine silk foundation 100 year old Senneh rug had a nasty split in the centre with some other tears. Our expert restorer rebuilt the silk foundation and re-piled the damaged area matching the design and correct wool colour. The end result was fantastic as you can see.
Accidental damage repair - A dog chewed corner.
This rug had been badly chewed by a dog on one corner. Our restorer placed the rug back on a small loom frame to add the foundation (warp) back, before repiling using old wool to match the colours. The end result was fantastic I am sure you will agree.
Antique Ziegler carpet - Large split repair
This beautiful late 19th century Ziegler carpet required extensive restoration all over. We did the restoration sympathetically to the age of the carpet using soft sturdy wool, matching the colours perfectly. This is extremely important and this has been done expertly by our restorer.
Antique Ziegler carpet - Moth Repair
This stunning late 19th century Ziegler required a large area of moth damage to be restored. Our expert restorer used wool to match the colours even adding ‘Abrash’ the term for dye change. This matches the lower area of the border, by using pale blue and darker blues it blends in with the original 1890 dyes and adds the character required.
