Antique Konaghend rug

Circa 1890
162 × 110 cm 5’3” x 3’7”
£4,500

Description

An Antique Konaghend rug with the distinctive design these caucasian rugs use.  Due to their tight weave and geometric small design in the centre. Often woven with a Kufic border this piece has a more subtle style.  Woven with great natural dyes around 1890 this rug is in wonderful condition. With only one small old repair in the main field. The ends and sides have been secured to prevent any loss and the main field pile is evenly medium to low.

. . .

These rugs as finely woven never had a high lush pile like antique kazaks.

Kuba is a town located in the Daghestan area of the Caucasus mountain region close to the Caspian Sea. They are always geometric in design and generally were woven with a blue background making them a distinctive Caucasian rug.
