£6,500

Description

The Sivas region is inhabited by both Turkish and Kurdish people, kilims were woven by both and varied in style and design.  Many prayer arch kilims come from here, as well as small kilims and larger kilims woven in two halves.  Designs of the larger kilims are similar to those of Malatya area, featuring large oblong central medallions, with many smaller motifs such as stars. This antique Sivas kilim is in very good condition, with natural pale greens, pinks and pale blues.  All derived from natural resources, such as plants and beetles.

Some kilims attributed to Sivas are actually woven in Şarkisla, a town further south-west, and these are in fact very different in character and weave, although the design compositions are fairly similar, with rows of floating medallions in hexagonal or hooked diamond form.

We offer the service of viewing any of our antique kilims in situ.  We love visiting customers all over the UK, having helped customers and interior designers find the perfect carpet, rug, kilim or runner for their home since 1990.

. . .

We have a wonderful collection of antique kilims woven in Anatolia the Caucasus and Persia.  As well as beautiful European Bessarabian kilims from Ukraine, we love flat weave rugs as they hold so much interest and variety in colours and styles varies considerably.
