Antique Sivas carpet

Circa 1890
316 × 235 cm 10’4” x 7’8”
£22,000

Description

From the late 19th century, this is stunning antique Sivas carpet, with a rare Boteh design, the off-white palette with soft pinks and yellows is wonderful.  With a cotton foundation it allows for a finer weave compared to other Turkish carpets such as Ushak. The design is classical and Persian in influence, but much more open with an exquisite palette and gentle design.

Please request a home visit to see this lovely antique Sivas carpet in situ to see if it works with your interior.  We travel all over the UK showing our carpets and rugs in situ and we would love to help you soon.

. . .

Sivas carpets were often commissioned for the Western market, using elegant curvilinear designs from Persian rugs and intricate floral motifs combined with wide borders with repeating cartouche designs.  This design variation can also be seen on Tabriz carpets, a wonderful muted carpet that have a lot of decorative appeal and are ideal to furnish around.  Generally their palette is very soft and the wool used of good quality and soft under foot.
