Distressed Antique Sivas carpet

Circa 1880
367 × 249 cm 12’ x 8’2”
£12,500

Description

A really beautiful distressed antique Sivas carpet woven in central Anatolia, dating from the late 19th century, it has wonderful natural dyes which have faded over the last 120 years.  With a cotton foundation it allows for a finer weave compared to other Turkish carpets such as Ushak. The design is classical and Persian in influence, with an exquisite and intricate medallion and corner motifs.  A delightful green border design of subtle plants and flowers.

We rarely hold distressed antique carpets in our inventory, unless they are as attractive as this! No major holes or tears, just general scattered wear in places.  Adding to the carpets character and charm. Our underlay would aid the carpets condition as it stops the movement on the floor.

Please request a home visit to see this lovely distressed antique Sivas carpet in situ to see if it works with your interior.  We travel all over the UK showing our carpets and rugs in situ and we would love to help you soon.

. . .

Sivas carpets were often commissioned for the Western market, using elegant curvilinear designs from Persian rugs and intricate floral motifs combined with wide borders with repeating cartouche designs.  This design variation can also be seen on Tabriz carpets, a wonderful muted carpet that have a lot of decorative appeal and are ideal to furnish around.  Generally their palette is very soft and the wool used of good quality and soft under foot.
