Antique Sivas carpet

Circa 1900
314 × 252 cm 10’3” x 8’3”
£15,500

Description

A magnificent, complex and intricate pattern on this Sivas carpet from the early 20th century.  A stripe design diamond medallion of pale green, blues and yellows in the centre are flanked either side with exquisite detailed leaves scrolling along with subtle flowers at the end.  With a muted gentle pink central motif and light blues, the whole colour palette is so pretty.  The four ivory corners with fine flowers finish the central area, yellow and pink minor borders work well with the deep blue tones in the main border design.

With a cotton foundation it allows for a finer weave compared to other Turkish carpets such as Ushak. The design is classical and Persian in influence, with an exquisite and intricate medallion and corner motifs.  Condition is exemplary, with a fine soft wool pile, no low areas of pile and professionally cleaned by ourselves ready to be used with our supplied underlay.

Please request a home visit to see this fine and beautiful Sivas carpet in-situ to see if it works with your interior.  We travel all over the UK showing our antique carpets and contemporary rugs in-situ, it would be our pleasure to help you too soon. A free, professional home visit service we have been offering since for over 30 years.

. . .

Sivas carpets were often commissioned for the Western market, using elegant curvilinear designs from Persian rugs and intricate floral motifs combined with wide borders with repeating cartouche designs.  This design variation can also be seen on Tabriz carpets, a wonderful muted carpet that have a lot of decorative appeal and are ideal to furnish around.  Generally their palette is very soft and the wool used of good quality and soft under foot.
