Description

A beautiful antique Dorokhsh rug woven in the Khorassan region, north east Persia.  This type of rug were often commissioned with luxurious wool and intricate, delicate designs for export to France.  Beautiful boteh design all over with stunning greens and pink dyes.  The pile on this rug is high and the wool is extremely soft to touch.  In remarkable original condition for a finely woven rug of the early part of the 20th century.

. . .

Khorassan and Dorokhsh rugs are among the finest of the antique rug weavings, and reflect something of the Old Persian culture going back to the . They have a wonderful sheen, due to the fine wool of which they are made; and an unusual artistic effect is produced by the uneven trimming of the pile, which makes the figures of the design stand out from the background. They have the warmth and softness for which the ancient Iranian fabrics were famous. Designs on a background of rich blue or red, floral designs in elaborate patterns are worked out, some showy and others with small, intricate patterns. This a beautiful example from this region, a true work of art.
