Antique Hamadan rug

Circa 1900
210 × 135 cm 6’10” x 4’5”
£4,250

Description

Amazing funky colours on this early 20th century Hamadan rug! With a full lush pule and a great vivid ‘Abrash’ the term for dye change throughout.  As we can see the colours go from deep red to yellow, to softer reds, with greens used at one end of the rug but not the other.  You only get this amount of character in an antique rug, as the weaver would used various dyed wool over a period of time to produce this colourful rug.

. . .

A top soft wool pile all over and original ends at both ends, which is unusual as often these get lost with modern day hoovers.

Hamadan is located in the west of Persia and the city was a centre for trading and weaving carpets, hundreds of villages surround Hamadan which produced various designs and qualities of rugs.  You can learn more about the city on Wikipedia – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamadan
