Antique Isfahan rug

Circa 1910
227 × 148 cm 7’5” x 4’10”
£8,500

Description

An amazing a beautifully drawn antique Isfahan rug, with an unusual spiral central medallion design.  A very fine weave on this rug dating from around 1910.  Purchase this exquisite antique rug online and we will securely courier to your home with our excellent anti-slip rug underlay included.

The colours in this antique Isfahan rug are sublime, with soft natural dyes and the drawing of the design has been executed perfectly. Excellent fine wool pile and finely cut as you would expect from a workshop rug such as this, no damage or repairs with the majority of the original fringes and selvedges in tact too. Some minor areas need tidying up a little on the sides which we will do before selling this piece.  We also have wonderful mother and daughter ‘Boteh’ design which is similar to that of the Paisley design from India.  This pattern is called the mother and daughter Both as we can see a smaller Boteh inside the larger Boteh motif.

Isfahan is situated virtually in the centre of Iran, and was once the capital city. The rugs are woven in the city itself and the surrounding villages. Starting in the early 17th century, their name was renowned throughout Europe – this has continued to the present day. Although rug making was interrupted by the Afghan invasion, it quickly re-established itself as a major centre for the finest handmade carpets. This example show cases why Isfahan are famous for weaving the most detailed, beautiful fine rugs.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please contact us to request a home visit to see this beautiful fine antique Isfahan rug at home, we also ship our rugs worldwide.
