Description

An old pale Tabriz carpet woven around 1930-1940 with an ivory background and wonderful soft greens, muted yellows, blues and touches of pink.  A classical all over ‘Herati’ pattern in the main field design. This design consists of a flower centered in a diamond with curving lanceolate leaves located outside the diamond and parallel to each side. There are many versions of this design in different shapes and varying sizes.

. . .

This design has been stylised through the centuries and is supposed to represent two fish swimming around a water-lily, the design in 19th century carpets depicts two leaves around a flower.  The condition is excellent with no damage or significant wear to speak of.

Tabriz carpets from Northwest Persia are distinguished by their excellent weave and by their remarkable adherence to the classical traditions of Persian rug design, but they cannot be distinguished by any particular pattern or by their coloration. Tabriz rugs offer classical medallion designs and a host of allover patterns as well in every color imaginable, from brilliant rich tones to soft pastels.

We love to travel all over the UK helping customers and interior designers find the ideal carpet for their home or scheme. Please request a home visit to see this beautiful antique carpet in-situ.
