Antique Tabriz carpet

Circa 1890
715 × 410 cm 23’5” x 13’5”

One of the finest weaves we have seen on an antique Tabriz carpet, possibly from the famed master workshop of ‘Hadji-Jalili’ – whether or not this weavers workshop actually existed is another debate in the history of rug weaving! One thing that is for certain is that the best workshops in Tabriz in the late 19th century produced some of the finest elegant and refined carpets for export.

. . .

This is such an example.  The weave is extremely fine and has allowed this masterful carpet to be created with a such precision the classical medallion design is outstanding!  Pale green corner spandrels with the natural pale colour in the main field, lighten the overall palette and make this a light subtle carpet which would be wonderful to decorate with.  In very good condition throughout, with only minimal low areas of pile.  There has been no damage to this carpet and no major areas have been restored.  It has been professionally washed by ourselves and it is ready to be shown in situ or shipped.  Please feel free to ask us any questions about it, we will take some detailed photographs of this beautiful carpet and add them very soon.

Tabriz carpets from Northwest Persia are distinguished by their excellent weave and by their remarkable adherence to the classical traditions of Persian rug design, but they cannot be distinguished by any particular pattern or by their coloration. Tabriz rugs offer classical medallion designs and a host of allover patterns as well in every color imaginable, from brilliant rich tones to soft pastels.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire, & all over the UK by appointment.  We love to travel, and have been doing so since the early 90’s having visited customers in Scotland, Ireland, France and Belgium helping them find the ideal carpet for their home.  Please request a home visit below or email us if we can help you.
