Antique Sivrihisar Kilim

Circa 1870
164 × 112 cm 5’4” x 3’8”
£7,950

Description

The Sivrihisar people produced wonderful slit weave kilims in small sizes, prayer kilims and larger kilims woven in two halves.  They loved brighter palettes and designs usually well drawn, with geometric motifs and loving pink, purple tones and pale blues.  This Sivrihisar kilim was woven around 1860-70, the dyes are truly amazing and condition is really good with lots of original fringe in tact at both ends.   One small hole in the bottom right hand corner in the stripe design, it can be easily repaired, our expert workshop can complete this work if purchased or required.

Sivrihisar is a town and district of Eskisehir Province in the Central Anatolia and is situated halfway between Ankara and Afyon.  The name translates from Turkish as ‘the Pinnacled Castle’, which may be a reference to the Roman or Hellenistic ruins nearby.

We offer the service of viewing any of our antique kilims in situ.  We love visiting customers all over the UK, having helped customers and interior designers find the perfect carpet, rug, kilim or runner for their home since 1990.

We have a wonderful collection of antique kilims woven in Anatolia the Caucasus and Persia.  As well as beautiful European Bessarabian kilims from Ukraine, we love flat weave rugs as they hold so much interest and variety in colours and styles vary considerably.
