Antique Heriz runner

Circa 1910
355 × 103 cm 11’7” x 3’4”
£4,500

Description

A rustic antique Heriz runner from the early 20th century, wonderful geometric design and variety of colours.  Look at the bottom of the runner to see how the weaver completely changed their mind on the border design and instead of it being narrow they widened it! Such character and interest is really only apparent in antique runners.  Full of ivory tones, rustic red/brown dyes which have faded over the runner, and great pale blues and deeper shades of blue.

In good original condition, ideal to add character to a corridor or hall for example.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.

Request a home visit to arrange an ideal day and time for us to visit you to show you this antique runner in situ, so you can see if the size, colour and design works in your home.  We travel all over the UK helping customers and interior designers.
