Rare Antique Heriz runner

Circa 1890
578 × 95 cm 18’11” x 3’1”
£15,500

Description

An amazing richly coloured and detailed antique Heriz runner, great colours and finely woven with only a couple of small areas of localised wear.  One corner was removed at some stage in the runners life,  (probably to fit around a door frame in a long hall)  but the piece was removed and kept by the family, so this has now been professionally rewoven by ourselves, and it is once again is complete and looking magnificent!

Request a home visit to see this beautiful rare antique Heriz runner at home, we love to travel and meet with clients and interior designers to show our rugs in-situ.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
