Antique Hamadan rug

Description

Beautiful tribal antique Hamadan rug, woven in northern Persia around 1910 in great condition all over and using a variant of a Baluchi rug design.  The variety and depth of colour is fantastic! The Hamadan region can often produce quite coarse village rugs with poor materials, this is a much finer example and the weaver has executed the design perfectly.

. . .

The natural ivory wool background allows the reds, greens and pale blues in the tribal floral motifs to really pop and give this rug plenty of life.  The pile height is very good indeed, with a finer weave and good quality wool it has retained most of its appearance from when it was woven 100 years ago.  Even the original finishing end is in tact and visible.

Hamadan is located in the west of Persia and the city was a centre for trading and weaving carpets, hundreds of villages surround Hamadan which produced various designs and qualities of rugs.  You can learn more about the city on Wikipedia – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamadan
