Antique Kayseri kiliim

Circa 1890
255 × 170 cm 8’4” x 5’6”
£5,750

Description

Woven over 130 year ago this is a vibrant and interesting antique Kayseri kilim, full of wonderful geometric motifs and amazing natural dyes.  Deep reds, pinks with pale blues and dark brown dyes, some wonderful pale yellows too.  These kilims are woven in two halves then attached together after they have been made.

Kayseri was once the capital of Cappadocia, situated at the foot of Mount Erciyes, one of two volcanoes in the region.  Kayseri people still weave kilims and many are made specifically for the export market.  It is also one of the only regions who produce silk kilims, which are woven in slit-weave technique.  Many compartment type kilims such as this kilim are woven featuring a square or geometric emblem repeated three or four times down the centre.

We offer the service of viewing any of our antique kilims in situ.  We love visiting customers all over the UK, having helped customers and interior designers find the perfect carpet, rug, kilim or runner for their home since 1990.

. . .

We have a wonderful collection of antique kilims woven in Anatolia the Caucasus and Persia.  As well as beautiful European Bessarabian kilims from Ukraine, we love flat weave rugs as they hold so much interest and variety in colours and styles varies considerably.
