Description

Famous for beautiful garden patterns this antique Baktiari rug is no exception, full of stunning flowers, cypress trees and combined with a lovely pale blue lattice design.  Great antique colours, muted greens and pink tones on a deep dark blue ground which is almost black.  Excellent fine pile all over.

There are some 200 villages in the region of Baktiari, who all produced beautiful rugs around the late 19th century and in some quite striking designs.

. . .

The garden design, as seen here is a famous design used by Baktiari weavers for centuries.

Baktiari, which is west of Isfahan, is a region where rugs used a similar medallion format to those of Isfahan rugs. This is where the similarity ends, as this village rug is coarsely woven on a wool foundation whereas Isfahan rugs are finer and woven using a cotton foundation. The colours on this rug really stand out on the black main field, which makes for a marvelous nomadic rug.
