£5,850

Description

Şarkoy kilims are very finely woven in slit weave technique in a variety of sizes and are made in one piece.  Many feature the tree of life composition as we can see on this lovely small kilim.  Birds also feature regularly as motifs and can be seen in border designs too.  Stylised leaves appear on the trees in lovely faded dyes.  Their primary colours are deep red, purple hues with greens and blues, and some light yellow faded dyes.  An exquisite Şarkoy kilim woven around 1860 in remarkable condition, with the best natural dyes.

Kilims from this region are known as Thracian or Şarkoy kilims, even though Şarkoy is geographically within modern Turkey.  The name Şarkoy is also used for kilims woven farther north in Bulgaria.  These unique slit weave kilims are produced in one piece and vary in sizes from small to larger pieces.  Smaller kilims from this area are rare to find, and especially in excellent original condition such as this kilim.

We offer the service of viewing any of our antique kilims in situ.  We love visiting customers all over the UK, having helped customers and interior designers find the perfect carpet, rug, kilim or runner for their home since 1990.

We have a wonderful collection of antique kilims woven in Anatolia the Caucasus and Persia.  As well as beautiful European Bessarabian kilims from Ukraine, we love flat weave rugs as they hold so much interest and variety in colours and styles vary considerably.
