Description

A fabulous antique Isfahan rug, woven in the fine workshops of Isfahan in the first 1/4 of the C20th. We can see a wonderful variety of dyes used on this rug and what is known as ‘Abrash’ which is the obvious changes in dye across the rug.  This gives an antique rug great interest and character such as this beautiful classical rug.  The wool pile is extremely high all over this rug with no areas of damage or wear.

. . .

Historically, Isfahan was a weaving and cultural center of great importance with its culmination as the capital of Shah Abbas, the great patron of the arts in the 16th century, “The Golden Age of Persian Weaving”. Except for the period of the Afghan domination of the early 1700’s, Isfahan has long produced antique carpets of great technical skill and sophisticated aesthetics.
