Description

Exquisite and rare pair of antique Tehran rugs woven around 1900 – 1910. A very rare find to see such a beautiful pair of fine rugs. The soft white background allows all the silk highlights that have been used to weave the birds and vases in the main field to stand out. Lovely mellow colours an extremely beautiful and collectable pair of rugs.

. . .

They have been made side by side as there is a clear ‘abrash’ which is a dye change at one end when the weavers decided to change the shade of colours they were using.  This adds amazing character and interest that only antique rugs have.  These rugs can be used on the floor or even hung on a wall as they are truly works of art.

Tehran carpets and rugs can match the quality and workmanship of any Tabriz or Isfahan piece. Relatively new to producing decorative carpets and rugs compared to neighbouring cities such as Tabriz. Tehrans rugs production became more notable after the great revival persian weaving around the late nineteenth century. Tehran rugs are quite distinctive from other town carpets as there palette of dyes generally consisted of burgundy and purple dyes along with varying indigo dyes. Many would be pictorial pieces often with elaborate hunting designs. This pair of rare Tehran rugs are very decorative using intricate bird motifs with vases of flowers. Many of the birds are woven in silk. An extremely elegant pair of rugs in wonderful condition with no restoration of any kind.
