Wonderful rich colours, a deep indigo blue background with softening colours such as pale oranges/terracotta, delicate greens and pale blues. The soft orange tone border design gives the carpet a lift and lightens the overall look of this large carpet. Condition wise, it has had some restoration to the main field, with a few old patches in places. They have all been professionally secured and the carpet is extremely sturdy and durable now. The outer minor border design has been removed as it was badly damaged at some point in its life and was beyond repair, a new side-cord has been secured to the carpet on both sides using old wool to match the carpet. This has adjusted the carpets price and makes such a large antique carpet a very attractive and good price. Ideal for under a dining table or in a living room space with furniture placed on the carpet. This carpet would add a lot of character and warmth to a room.
Fereghan carpets are unlike their neighbours Sarouk which are more formal often using a medallion. Fereghan weavers preferred floral motifs of shrubs and vines using more green dyes and hints of yellow. The dyes have mellowed beautifully due to the carpets age allowing it to be placed in a drawing room or dining room with ease. Fereghan carpets are generally one of two types, the first being a full field decoration of floral motifs based on Persian designs, most commonly with the geometric ‘Herati’ design. The second has a full medallion, usually with a contrasting colour, the edge of which is surrounded by a zig zag or jagged border.
