An early example from 1870-1880, the condition is very good indeed. With minimal scattered wear, and a few areas of old restoration. The structure of the carpet is excellent and it has retained all the main outer border design and sides. The slight wear does not detract from the beauty of this early carpet, if anything it enhances its charm and character.
Please request a home visit to view this large antique Fereghan carpet in situ, we love helping customers or interior designers find the perfect carpet for a home. We travel all over the UK showing our carpets and rugs in customers homes.
Fereghan carpets are generally one of two types, the first being a full field decoration of floral motifs based on Persian designs, most commonly with the geometric ‘Herati’ design. The second has a full medallion, usually with a contrasting colour, the edge of which is surrounded by a zig zag or jagged border. The dyes have mellowed beautifully due to the carpets age allowing it to be placed in a drawing room or dining room with ease.
