Description

A Shashavan Kilim, hand-woven with hand-spun wool and dyes.  We have a beautiful new collection of kilims from Shashavan and Veramin.  All hand-made this particular kilim is hand-stitched together in panels with a stripe design, with a rustic and natural look, using varying brown tones, greys and off whites.  This kilim would be a natural look to work with a traditional or modern setting.

Shashavan are one of the most famous confederations in Azerbaijan, in northern Persia, the majority are a Turkic tribe.  The remainder are of Kurdish, Tadjic and Georgian origin.  “Shashavan” means those who are loyal to the Shah.  The Shashavan produced a large quantity of kilims, antique kilims from these weavers usually comprised of large and striking motifs.

Visit our showroom or request a home visit to see this Shashavan kilim up close, or purchase online and we can ship it straight to your home.

. . .

Kilims or Kelims are woven differently from piled carpets as they are constructed with a flat pile.  This is done by using wool interwoven through the warp foundation rather than pushed up to create a knotted pile which is then cut down.  Kilims originate are famous from Anatolia, but have been hand-woven in Afghanistan, Iran, India and the Caucasus for centuries.  Dyes are varying from one weaving area to the next but mainly consist of vegetable dyes.

Please request a home visit if you would like to view this antique Kelim in-situ, we love to travel and help customers find the perfect rug for their home.  It is a free, no obligation service we have offered for over 25 years of business.
