Kilims or Kelims are woven differently from piled carpets as they are constructed with a flat pile. This is done by using wool interwoven through the warp foundation rather than pushed up to create a knotted pile which is then cut down. Kilims originate are famous from Anatolia, but have been hand-woven in Afghanistan, Iran, India and the Caucasus for centuries. Dyes are varying from one weaving area to the next but mainly consist of vegetable dyes.
