Description

A fabulous quality Persian Isfahan rug in exceptional original condition.  The wool used on this rug is of superb quality,  being very finely spun to create a wonderfully soft pile – this is a stand out example of Isfahan weaving and as the condition is so good it will be a very long standing investment that you can have enormous confidence in.  The rug dates from around 1910 and this is when some of the best quality Isfahan rugs were bring produced,  The colours,  all of vegetable origin,  are exquisite – the pale blue indigo field is especially lovely.

No damage or repairs with original fringes and selvedges. The rug has been in a private collection for many years and was very well loved and admired.

Isfahan is situated virtually in the centre of Iran, and was once the capital city. The rugs are woven in the city itself and the surrounding villages. Starting in the early 17th century, their name was renowned throughout Europe – this has continued to the present day. Although rug making was interrupted by the Afghan invasion, it quickly re-established itself as a major centre for the finest handmade carpets. This example show cases why Isfahan are famous for weaving the most detailed, beautiful fine rugs.
