Description

A wonderful antique tribal caucasian rug woven in the Shirvan region, with a muted old palette of dyes, dating from around circa 1900-1910.  The condition is good, with much of the original ends/fringes in place and finely woven pile.  Professionally cleaned by ourselves and ready to be used on the floor with our excellent underlay we supply with every rug.

Shirvan is a region of Azerbaijan in the southeastern Caucasus.

. . .

With the exception of a group of rugs woven in the vicinity of Baku, most Shirvans are found in small sizes, with examples from the southern part of the area around the town of Saliani more likely to be in the long, narrow format described in the West as runners.
