Description

An early 20th century Tabriz carpet dating from 1920-1930, beautiful colours and a vibrant yellow background with an array of amazing colours, soft pinks, oranges, pale blues, greens and a dark blue border. The flowers in the border are quite stunning with a rainbow array of leaves! Carpets from the 1920’s and 30’s followed the arts and crafts movement in terms of bright colours and bolder patterns.

The condition is very smart, with only smaller lower areas of pile/wear in places.  We have just washed it all by hand and colours are full of life again.

The major city of Tabriz, located near the Turkish border, is the centre of classically designed antique carpets in Northwest Persia. At the foot of the beautiful Elbruz Mountains, Tabriz has a noteworthy history, both as the Persian market centre most linked geographically to European and Western commerce, and as the source of the most venerated weavings: the inspired carpets of the Shah Abbas period during the 15th and 16th centuries.
