Description

A rare and unusual pair of antique Sarab runners with gorgeous colours! Woven with brighter pinks and amazing green dyes this works so well on the famous camel border colour which has subtle tree designs floating along the border with geometric stylised boteh designs at both ends.  These runners have so much character and charm and finding wonderful pairs of antique runners that have stayed together is becoming rarer, as often they get split up.

. . .

The antique runners date from the early 20th century around 1900-1910, using geometric motifs and Woven in East Azerbaijan which is one of 30 provinces in north-west Persia. Sarabs are easily recognisable due to their love of using the camel beige tone natural wool in the main field and borders, used as the background colour it allows the other colours to pop and makes them vibrant and colourful.

One runner measures 452 x 94cm and the shorter one is 447 x 91cm.

Sarab is famous for good quality runners and rugs and their design is almost always geometric, with repeating medallions.  More often the medallions are hex-column, meaning the hexagons are attached to each other through the length of the runner as we can see in this pair of runners.  The camel colour used is un-dyed wool which is a weaving characteristic of Sarab weavings.
