Description

A very rare and exceptional pair of antique Senneh runners from the north-west or Persia, circa 1870 with stunning natural dyes from this period.  One runner measures 676 x 120 cm and the other is 673 x 120 cm. Stunning and early all over poppies design on the main field on an ivory background, they have been woven with precision by accomplished weavers.

Crisp colours and a soft high wool pile, this pair of runners are a rare masterpiece of weaving from this era.  The smaller minor borders are lovely rich reds, with a darker blue almost black main border, flowing green small vines and red flowers make up the design.  In unbelievable condition, magnificent wool with a lush wool pile.

View ref. 5129 to see a remarkable antique Senneh carpet with the same Poppies design and border pattern! If this carpet could sit close to these runners in a home, they would work amazingly as a set and be quite stunning in situ.

Our home visits and showroom visits are available by appointment, we would love to help you, please make contact to organise a viewing.

Senneh or Senna, now called Sanandaj which is the capital of the Kurdistan province in Persia produced a variety of exceptional and decorative pieces by Kurd weavers in the late 19th century.

Fine Senneh carpets, rugs and runners are often delicate in their design and their distinctive, weaving technique. Varying in design from all over floral shrub designs, Gol Farang designs and medallion patterns, their colours are often blue, red and using natural ivory wool.
