Description

An antique Heriz carpet woven around 1900-1910 in a rare and hard to find small size, most Heriz carpets were woven in larger sizes such as 10 x 8 feet or much bigger.  The design being all over with repeating lattice and floral motifs is also a hard design to come across, as 90% of Heriz carpets were made with central medallions and corner spandrels flowing into the centre as part of the overall design.

. . .

We have placed many of this type in various room types as they work so well in both contemporary and traditional settings.  The overall condition is excellent, the wool pile is medium to high all over and the ends and sides have been secured to prevent any further losses and strengthen the carpet too. Minimal losses to the ends but they have now been professionally secured.  No old holes or restoration to the main field, the carpet is truly in wonderful original order.

Heriz carpets have always been regarded as beautiful tough objects of decoration for the floor, made in the north-west of Persia these handwoven works of art always have variations from one piece to another. Some draw influences from further north into the Caucasus and use bright colours, this particular carpet has a great muted selection of pale blues and brick red tones.  A decorative yet practical carpet which has been used for over 100 years and has already stood the test of time.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please use our request home visit to view this rare small antique Heriz carpet in your own home.
