Description

A beautiful antique Mahal carpet with warm colors in excellent condition all-over with a full high pile. The soft wool and design of this Mahal make it an attractive piece, that would look fantastic under a dining table or in a living room. The flowing vines are floral motifs scattered all over with nice changes in the dyes throughout. The border colors also help to lift this piece with the ivory tones, it really lightens the blue border.

. . .

Woven, circa 1920 in the north of Persia, Mahal carpets were known to be more open in their design at this period of weaving.

Mahal carpets were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the center of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vine scrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western color palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.
