Description

Stunning Isfahan carpet woven with a wool border and a silk main background, dating from the 1960’s. This carpet has been woven with the best wool and silk by master weavers in Isfahan. Stunning muted colours and pale blue/grey silk, with the background being all silk this allows the wool design to give an embossed feel to touch.  A remarkable rare fine wool and silk rug woven around 60 years ago, these rugs are slowing in production due to their high costs to produce.

. . .

The detailing of birds, flowers and leaves are quite remarkable, the workmanship is of the highest order.

Isfahan is situated virtually in the centre of Persia, and was once the capital city. The rugs are woven in the city itself and the surrounding villages. Starting in the early 17th century, their name was renowned throughout Europe – this has continued to the present day. Although rug making was interrupted by the Afghan invasion, it quickly re-established itself as a major centre for the finest handmade carpets. This example show cases why Isfahan are famous for weaving the most detailed, beautiful fine carpets.
