Description

A colorful antique Kazak rug woven around 1890-1900 in good pile with corrosion to the black/brown dyes. Vibrant exciting colors on a geometric tribal antique Caucasian rug. Rugs bearing this name ‘Kazak’ come from the highland area of the Caucasus whose centre is the town of Kazak. Woven by semi-nomadic shepherds of the region. They use fabulous vegetable dyes and high quality hand spun wool from their own herd.

. . .

The wool is always very soft and the handle of this rug is light and floppy, typical of good antique Kazak rugs.

The dyes on this rug are mainly natural with a little of the more strident pink being a chemical dye. Which we will often find in Caucasian rugs from this period and earlier, with chemical dyes being used in the late 19th century. A striking fun rug to add interest and colour to a room.

Please request a home visit below to try this rug in-situ at a convenient day and time to suit you.
