The condition is very good indeed with the original ends and selvedges as well as a high lush wool pile. The lack of a central medallion means this is easier to place in a variety of different rooms. Antique Mahal’s or Sultanabad carpets are generally woven with all over patterns consisting of floral designs and soft tones. Their neighbours in the north of Persia, Heriz were always more geometric in their style – and more often were woven with central motifs. The all over design Heriz carpets are increasingly hard to find in good condition and with age.
We have many Mahal’s, Sultanabad’s and Heriz carpets in our showroom in Crondall, Surrey just outside of Farnham. Please feel free to arrange a time to visit or alternatively we are very happy to show you any of our carpets in your own home.
