Antique St Petersberg Kelim

Circa 1880
282 × 233 cm 9’3” x 7’7”
£4,950

Description

Antique St Petersberg Kelim woven in the style of a French Aubusson. Very mellow dyes create this elegant looking kelim. Would suit a drawing room or bedroom perfectly.  The condition is fair, as it has had some restoration over the years and is low in places.  With the underlay we supply it would sit flat and be durable on the floor for many years.

Carpet production in Russia is believed to have begun under Peter the Great (1682-1725) in the Imperial Tapestry Factory near St. Petersburg. Knotted-pile and Flat-woven St Petersberg Kelims were woven there in the 18th and 19th centuries most often in the court-favored “French” style.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please visit barn showroom to view a vast selection of antique rugs, runners, carpets and kelims.
