Antique Malayer rug

Circa 1890
193 × 135 cm 6’3” x 4’5”
£4,250

Description

A beautiful Malayer rug that is very fine and full of wonderful detail and rare green dyes.  Woven over 130 years ago the rugs condition is truly fantastic! A soft wool pile all over and with warm terracotta, brick tones, the deep blues and soft greens are excellent too.  The minor borders woven with off-white natural un-dyed wool lift the rugs palette too, a well drawn design and full of character.

Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in Northwest Persia. In Malayer and the small villages surrounding it, production was almost exclusively small antique rugs and runners made by individual weavers in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Arrange to view this antique rug at home or in our barn showroom by appointment.  We are open Monday to Saturday 9.30-5.30pm, book in a day time to visit.  Or if easier ask us to bring the rug to you, a free, no obligation and professional service we offer and have done for the last 30 years.
