Antique Malayer rug

Circa 1900
192 × 133 cm 6’3” x 4’4”
£4,500

Description

A very handsome and fine antique Malayer rug.  The condition of this piece is very good indeed, with a finely cut wool pile, this type of finer town rug often had a lower pile as the wool has been cut very flat. The deep blue medallion is very beautiful in execution, with a wonderful pale ground surrounding it.  The red corner spandrel design is extremely elegant, please do look at the additional images to see all the intricate floral detail and faded ancient colours.

The weaving quality of this piece is very high and the wool used is of very fine quality, all amounting to a very lovely and attractive fine rug.

We would love to hear from you and show you this rug up close, whether at our barn showroom or in your own home.  Please contact us for further help.

Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in Northwest Persia. In Malayer and the small villages surrounding it, production was almost exclusively small antique rugs and runners made by individual weavers in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
