Antique Malayer carpet

Circa 1900
295 × 206 cm 9’8” x 6’9”
£9,250

Description

A rare antique Malayer carpet woven around 120 years ago, with soft pink/red tones and pale blues on a deeper blue almost black background.  A large scale floral pattern works beautifully on this finely woven antique carpet, and in the pale blue border too.  In very good condition with a medium wool pile height all over this elegant piece.

Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in Northwest Persia.  They more often wove rugs and runners, rarely producing carpet sizes such as this one.  Supplied with our anti-slip underlay, this helps add body and strength to a carpet, thus preventing wear.

If you would like to view this fine Malayer carpet at home, please make contact in your preferred way.  We love visiting customers at home showing our rugs all over the UK, or at our showroom in Crondall, Surrey.  Contact us to make an appointment soon.
