Description
A faded white background on this muted antique Mahal carpet with a lovely open all over floral design. Mahal or Sultanabad carpets where often woven using richer deeper blues and reds as the main field colour. This piece is much lighter in tone, with a rare soft plum coloured border, with gentle greens and blue dyes. This carpet dates from around circa 1900 with the condition being really good and original, the wool pile is excellent with a medium wool pile throughout. A very decorative and easy carpet to place in a room already finished, or to build a scheme around.
We love to help customers and interior designers source the ideal carpet for a room, if this beautiful antique Mahal carpet is of interest please contact us to arrange a time to view it in-situ or at our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey.
We would happily reserve this carpet for your home or project to view soon.
Mahal carpets were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the center of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vine scrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western color palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.
