Description

Woven in a Kurdish town in West Persia – Bidjar rugs are famous for weaving tough carpets and rugs in varying designs.  This antique Bidjar rug uses the ‘Herati’ fish design in the rare four yellow corner spandrels.  The deep reds and blues with faded and corroded browns for the main border.  An ancient and rustic feel and dye palette on this delightful antique rug, woven around 1880-1890 making it over 130 years old.

Rugs from Bidjar are very tough due to their structure which consists of usually five weft threads, two are loose wool threads followed by one taut cotton thread, then a further two loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots, creating an extremely tight, compact rug.
