Description

A very stunning and rare antique Baktiari runner woven in the south-west of Persia with a beautiful array of colours, wonderful tree design in the main field with exquisite natural dyes.  This antique runner dates from the late 19th century and is in good condition with a super soft handle and medium high pile.  Woven on a soft wool foundation, they tend to be light to touch and come in a variety of designs, but Baktiari rarely produced runners.   We have not encountered a runner from the tribal weaving area of Baktiari for a very long time, as they produced small tribal rugs primarily.

Visit our showroom in Crondall, Surrey to view hundreds of rare antique carpets, rugs and runners.

Or please request a home visit to see this exceptional and rare antique runner in situ, we travel all over the UK, from Surrey to Scotland showing our carpets in customers homes.  Or purchase this runner on our website and we shall ship it straight to your door.

. . .

Baktiari, which is west of Isfahan, is a region where rugs used a similar medallion format to those of Isfahan rugs. This is where the similarity ends, as this village rug is coarsely woven on a wool foundation whereas Isfahan rugs are finer and woven using a cotton foundation. The colours on this rug really stand out on the black main field, which makes for a marvelous nomadic rug.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment.
