Description

Gorgeous antique Heriz runner dating from the late 19th century and in stunning original condition.  Which is actually one of a pair! Please see Ref. 9644 to view the other one, they are almost identical, one is marginally longer by 5cm.  These are very rare to find, but we are able to offer them individually on this occasion, so they are listed separately on our website.  Please contact if you are interested in them as a pair.

Soft yellows have been used in the centre with rich terracottas for the border, light greens and blues with orange tones make up the abstract, stylised floral motifs.  A great wool pile can be seen on both runners.  They are really quite stunning, one measures 510 x 92 cm the other slightly shorter at 505 x 92 cm.

. . .

Mr Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.  Heriz often deployed this abstract all over design, with vines and geometric flowers.  They dyes are also what make these tribal antique runners so desirable, as well as their durability.
