We initially thought this rug was a Tabriz rug, but the weave and palette are more consistent with early Heriz/Bakshaish rugs and the palette too. The pale blue corner design is so beautiful and well balanced. The wool pile on this antique rug is in remarkable untouched condition. There is only minimal repairs at one end, where there are a couple of tiny old splits which have been restored well. The fringes have the original knot ties and are missing a few in places but we have to remember this ancient rug is at least 130-140 years old. All natural dyes and extremely collectable a wonderful example for a collector or to be used on the floor.

Heriz carpets and rugs are famous for their durability and are one of the toughest antique rugs due to the good quality wool that was used. They are still extremely popular today, and can be used in an traditional home with exposed beams for example as well as a more modern home with contemporary furniture and paintings. Their warm colours and interesting designs make them an excellent compliment to many interiors.
