Description

We love the rustic charm of this late 19th century Heriz runner, woven on a camel / biscuit toned background and reddish brown border.  This weaver has used a repeating ‘Lesghi’ star motif running down the centre of this runner, using amazing natural dyes of pink, green, pale blue and teal blues.  These have faded beautifully over the last 120 years to create this amazing antique piece! In excellent condition, it has been used on the floor for many years in a corridor and highlights how strong and durable these runners are.  We need to tidy up the side-cord / selvedges in some areas, but this is minimal restoration work and often happens with the high strength hoovers of today.

A very long Heriz runner ideal to enhance a hall or corridor, with every carpet, rug or runner we supply excellent anti-slip underlay that would add durability and stop this runner from moving on a wooden, tiled or carpeted floor.

Please request a home visit to see this stunning antique Heriz runner at home, we love to travel all over the UK showing our rugs, carpets and runners in customers homes.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
