Description

Beautiful antique Karaja rug with an lovely pale blue border in good condition.  A wonderful array of colours make this a vibrant tribal rug, the green eight-pointed stars in the middle of the main field along with the soft blues yellow and madder red work in harmony togeather. The pile on this rug is very good with no damage and in general in good condition.

Antique Karaja rugs were woven in a village in the northeast of the Heriz region of Persia, not far from the Azerbaijan Border.  Their designs generally consisted of 8 pointed star motifs like this piece as well as weaving in animals and people which adds great interest. The sun-burst design is not uncommon or they would weave a more geometric central motif known as a latch-hook design.
