Wonderful rustic charm on this antique Heriz runner, with soft brick reds and pale blues and golden yellows. Some lovely geometric motifs, woven with a simplistic and tribal design. A good wool pile on this antique runner, and a rare small size and narrow width too, increasingly rare to find in good order such as this one.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star. The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
