. . .

In excellent condition all over with a high wool pile a great durable antique piece.  Woven around 1910 these runners from the village of Karaja used great natural dyes and tough sheep wool which is why often these are found with a full pile.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
