Early Antique Karaja runner

Circa 1870
360 × 115 cm 11’9” x 3’9”
£8,500

Description

This is an incredible Antique Karaja runner, simply outstanding! Woven around 1870-1880 the colours are mouthwatering, such a great mixture and the design has been executed so well.

A wonderful short antique runner, that excites and honestly one of the best we have had from this region.  This particular Karaja runner draws many influences with Caucasian weavings using bold geometric motifs that would be used in many rugs from the Caucasus.  Antique rugs are all about character and this piece has it in abundance.  It would brighten up any hall or corridor and is in good condition and extremely durable.

Please use our request home visit service to view this beautiful antique runner in your home at a convenient time.

. . .

Karaja carpets, rugs and runners were woven in a village in the northeast of the Heriz region of Persia, not far from the Azerbaijan Border. They always depict geometric floral designs and often people and animals too.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment.
