Description

A dark blue almost black background on this 1910 antique Heriz runner, with soft brick red orange tones and a minor border in lovely pale blue.  The wool pile is very good, and it is in really good condition.  A great and rare narrow width on this antique tribal runner.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
